What Is a Visit Visa?

A visit visa is a temporary permission to enter a country for a short, specific purpose: tourism, meeting family, attending an event, or a business trip. It is issued by the destination country’s immigration authority for a fixed period, and it is granted on the condition that you return home when it expires.

The words used for it change from one country to another, which is where most confusion starts.

Visit Visa, Tourist Visa and Travel Visa: What Is the Difference?

TermWhat it meansWhere you will see it
Visit visaThe official category name for short stays covering tourism, family visits and business meetingsUnited Kingdom, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and most Gulf states
Tourist visaA narrower category limited to leisure travelTurkey, Schengen countries, Japan, China, Thailand
Travel visaAn informal umbrella term, not an official category anywhereCommonly used in conversation and online searches

In practice, if your trip is short and temporary, you are applying for a visit visa or a tourist visa. Which of the two depends entirely on how your destination has named its categories.

What a Visit Visa Does Not Allow

A visit visa is not a route to living, working or studying abroad. On a visit visa you cannot:

  • Take up employment, paid or unpaid
  • Enrol in a long-term academic programme
  • Access public funds or state benefits
  • Stay beyond the validity stamped on your visa
  • Switch to another visa category from inside the country, in most cases

If your plan is to study abroad rather than visit, our study visa services are the right starting point.

Our Visit Visa Services

  • Eligibility and Destination Assessment: We review your travel purpose, profile, financials and travel history, then tell you honestly which destinations you have a realistic case for. This happens before you spend anything on embassy fees.
  • Document Preparation and Review: Every mission has its own requirements. We build your checklist for your specific destination and check each document before it goes into your file.
  • Financial Documentation Guidance: Proof of funds is where most applications weaken. We advise on how your bank statements, income proof and sponsorship documents should be presented so they support your case clearly.
  • Cover Letter and Travel Itinerary: Two documents applicants most often get wrong. We help you write a cover letter that explains your purpose properly and an itinerary that matches your bookings and your stated plans.
  • Appointment Booking and Biometrics: We manage your embassy, consulate or VFS Global appointment and tell you exactly what to bring to your biometrics enrolment.
  • Visa Interview Preparation: Where your destination requires an interview, we run mock sessions so you know what will be asked and how to answer without contradicting your own file.
  • Refused Application Review and Re-Application: If your visit visa was refused, we read the refusal notice, identify what actually caused it, and rebuild the file before you apply again. Re-applying without fixing the original reason usually produces the same result.
  • Application Tracking and Post-Decision Support: We track your application through to the decision and guide you on next steps, whether that is passport collection or a fresh submission.

How to Apply for a Visit Visa

The process is broadly the same across destinations. What changes is the detail at each step, and that is usually where applications go wrong.

  1. Confirm your purpose and choose the correct category. Applying under the wrong category is a straightforward refusal, and family visits and business trips often have separate routes.
  2. Check current requirements and processing times. Requirements published on older third-party websites are frequently out of date. Work from the mission’s own current guidance.
  3. Assemble and verify your documents. Missing or inconsistent documents are the most common reason a file fails. Dates, names and amounts must agree across every document.
  4. Complete the online application and pay the fee. Answers here must match your supporting documents exactly, including previous travel and any earlier refusals.
  5. Book your appointment and give biometrics. Slots at busy missions can be limited, particularly in peak travel season, so book as early as your documents allow.
  6. Attend the interview, if your destination requires one. Answers that contradict your submitted file cause problems even when the documents themselves are sound.
  7. Track your application and collect your passport. If the decision is a refusal, read the reasons before doing anything else.

Why Visit Visa Applications Get Refused

Most refusals come down to a small number of recurring problems rather than anything unusual.

  • Funds that are not properly evidenced. A sufficient balance is not enough on its own. Large recent deposits with no explanation, or funds that do not match your declared income, raise questions.
  • Weak ties to Pakistan. Missions want to see clear reasons for you to return: employment, business, family or property. Applicants who cannot show these are treated as a higher risk.
  • Inconsistent or incomplete documentation. Dates that do not line up, an itinerary that contradicts your bookings, or a missing document the mission specifically asked for.
  • An unclear travel purpose. A file that does not explain why you are travelling, where you are staying and who is funding the trip leaves the officer to draw their own conclusions.
  • Undisclosed previous refusals. Earlier refusals are on record. Not declaring one is treated far more seriously than the original refusal was.
  • Interview answers that do not match the file. A nervous applicant who contradicts their own paperwork undermines documents that were otherwise fine.

Can’t talk? Don’t worry, we have got all the answers right here.

They overlap. “Visit visa” is the broader official category used by countries such as the UK and the UAE, and it covers tourism, family visits and business trips. “Tourist visa” is a narrower category used by countries such as Turkey and the Schengen states, and it covers leisure travel only. Which one you apply for depends on your destination’s own naming, not on your trip.
Processing times are set by each mission and change with season and application volume. Some Gulf and e-visa destinations decide within days, while UK, US, Canadian and Schengen applications commonly take several weeks and can take longer in peak season. We give you a current estimate for your destination at your consultation rather than a fixed number that may already be out of date.
There is no universal figure, and any consultant who gives you one without seeing your case is guessing. The amount depends on your destination, the length of your trip, whether you or a sponsor is funding it, and how the funds are evidenced. What matters as much as the balance is that it is consistent with your declared income and properly explained. We work this out with you during the assessment.
Yes. A refusal is not a permanent bar for most destinations. What matters is addressing the reason it was refused before you re-apply, because submitting the same file again usually produces the same outcome. Bring your refusal notice to your consultation and we will review what caused it and what needs to change.
No, and no consultant honestly can. The decision rests with the destination’s immigration authority, and anyone guaranteeing an outcome is not being straight with you. What we control is the completeness and accuracy of your documents, how clearly your purpose and ties are presented, and how prepared you are for the interview.
