How to Apply for a Spain Study Visa in 2026 from Pakistan
To study in Spain for more than 90 days, Pakistani students need a Spanish national student visa (Type D). You apply in person at an ‘Intiana Spain Visa Application Centre’ (formerly BLS) in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi after booking on thespainvisa.com, at least 2 months before your course starts. The visa fee is PKR 29,578 plus a PKR 5,519 service fee, paid in cash. You must show funds of about EUR 600-800 a month (100% of Spain’s IPREM), and documents in English need a sworn Spanish translation. A decision usually takes about one month.
Spain is a practical study option for Pakistani students because of its reasonable tuition at public universities, a wide choice of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes, and from May 2025, the right for higher education students to work up to 20-30 hours a week. Requirements for Pakistani Students
Applying for a Spanish student visa also counts as applying for your stay authorisation for studies. The Embassy of Spain in Islamabad makes the decision and can ask for extra documents or an interview. Pakistani students need the following:
- National Visa Application Form: Completed in full and signed, with a recent colour passport photo (white background) glued to the form.
- Valid Passport: Issued within the last 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages, and valid for at least your whole stay in Spain (one year of validity is recommended).
- CNIC: Original and a copy.
- Letter of Acceptance: An admission letter from a recognised Spanish university or authorised centre. Include the study programme details (subjects, credits, start and end dates, qualification) and a letter stating the language of instruction.
- Academic Documents: Matric and Intermediate certificates attested by IBCC, and degrees with transcripts attested by HEC, then apostilled by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only original certificates are accepted.
- Sworn Spanish Translation: Documents not in Spanish must be translated by an authorised sworn translator (traductor jurado). Get attestations and apostilles done first, then translate the final documents.
- Proof of Financial Means: At least 100% of Spain’s IPREM for each month of your stay, which is about EUR 600-800 a month (around EUR 7,200 to EUR 10,200 for a 12-month course), on top of your tuition. Submit an original bank statement for the last 6 months, signed and stamped by the bank. If a parent sponsors you, add their income proof and a NADRA Family Registration Certificate. Scholarship holders submit their award letter. Funds should be consistent over time, with a clear source.
- Health Insurance: A policy from an insurer authorised to operate in Spain, covering your full stay with the same cover as Spain’s public health system, with no co-payments and no waiting periods.
- Police Clearance Certificate (stays over 180 days): A Pakistani Police Character Certificate covering the last 5 years, issued within the 6 months before you apply, apostilled and translated into Spanish.
- Medical Certificate (stays over 180 days): A certificate from a recognised doctor or hospital confirming you do not have any disease with serious public health implications under the International Health Regulations 2005, with a sworn Spanish translation.
- Language Proof: For English-taught programmes, proof of English such as IELTS or TOEFL; some universities accept alternatives, so check your admission letter. Spanish-taught programmes usually need a Spanish level such as DELE. If you need a test score, see our IELTS preparation and TOEFL preparation classes.
- Accommodation Details: A letter from your university residence or a rental contract. Our student accommodation services can help.
- Statement of Purpose: A short study plan explaining your academic background, why you chose this programme in Spain, and your career plans. It should match the rest of your file.
- Photocopies: One complete, clear set of copies of the form and all documents, submitted with the originals.
Step-by-Step Application Process
Step 1: Select Your Course
- Choose a bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral or other programme at a recognised Spanish institution. The main intake is September, and some programmes start in January or February. Our counselors can help you choose the right programme.
Step 2: Apply to the University
- Submit your academic documents, language proof and statement of purpose as the university asks. Public universities in Spain set their own admission rules and deadlines, so apply early.
Step 3: Receive Your Admission Letter and Pay Fees
- Once accepted, pay the enrolment or tuition fee your university requires and get a letter confirming full-time enrolment, fees paid and the language of instruction.
Step 4: Prepare Attested and Translated Documents
- Get IBCC and HEC attestations, MOFA apostilles, your police clearance and medical certificate, then have everything translated by a sworn translator. This usually takes several weeks, so start straight after admission.
Step 5: Arrange Financial Proof and Insurance
- Prepare 6 months of bank statements showing at least EUR 600-800 a month for your stay, plus sponsor documents if needed, and buy health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain.
Step 6: Book Your Appointment
- Book a National Study Visa appointment on the official Intiana website. Appointments are only booked online; do not pay anyone to get or speed up a slot.
Step 7: Submit Your Application in Person
- Attend the Intiana centre in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi at least 2 months before your course starts. Submit your documents, give your biometrics, and pay the visa fee and service fee in cash. The centre forwards your file to the Embassy of Spain.
Step 8: Receive Your Visa and Travel
- The Embassy usually decides within about one month and may call you for an interview. After approval, travel to Spain. If your course is longer than 6 months, apply for your Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) within one month of arrival. Higher education students can then work up to 20-30 hours a week.

Need Help With Your Spain Study Visa Application?
Spain is a good option for Pakistani students, but most refusals come from preventable problems: funds that do not meet the IPREM rule or have no clear source, translations done before attestation or by a non-sworn translator, police or medical certificates that are too old, and insurance that does not meet Spanish rules.
Our study abroad counsellors have prepared more than 3,600 Spain student visa files for Pakistani students, so we know which documents the Embassy questions most often and how to get them right before you submit.
